I thinks she means that you shouldn't trust your kids with your own stuff. They aren't responsible enough, like if they damage something of their parents, they'll think it's ok, it just belonged to their parents........
That doesn't really apply to my parents. My parents trust me a whole lot......or at elast that's what they say. I also don't think that quote applies to my friends' parents.
